"If this is a dream... please let me stay in it a little longer."
- Miyo
Contents summary:
My Special Wedding tells the story of Yuto, a young man who, in his youth, entered into an arranged marriage with Hisako, a childhood friend. Despite the contractual nature of the marriage, the two do not get along particularly well and live a rather superficial and distant life side by side.
The story takes a turn, however, when Yuto begins to understand the meaning of love and relationships and begins to fall in love with Hisako. However, there are many challenges they must overcome—both between them as a couple and within their personal environment, which also struggles with the notion of an arranged marriage.
The series explores the development of a relationship that is not initially based on love and shows how the two characters slowly grow closer through their challenges and misunderstandings. It explores both the comic and the more serious aspects of life in an arranged marriage.
Review:
8/10
Don't get me wrong, I think My Special Wedding is truly beautifully designed, super cute, and also exciting. However, I have to say that "My Fiancé" is starting to get on my nerves quite a bit – anyone who knows this anime will know what I mean. Even though Miyo develops well, I find her development a bit too slow for my taste. There's definitely room for improvement and plenty of room for improvement, but overall, it remains a feel-good anime because the story is interesting and uplifting.
1. Plot: The development from a practical commitment to an emotional and loving relationship is well captured, with the series offering a mix of romance and everyday problems. The plot is entertaining, but not particularly innovative.
2. Character Development: Kiyoka Kudo and Miyo Saimori both undergo interesting development. Kiyoka goes from a man who shows little interest in marriage to someone who begins to develop real feelings for Miyo. Miyo, for her part, must learn to open herself up to a deeper relationship and overcome her own fears and insecurities. Her development is slow but believable.
3. Emotional Impact: The series creates a pleasant emotional impact, especially through the slow and often humorous unfolding of the relationship between the two main characters. However, there are also emotional depths that arise from misunderstandings and personal insecurities, leading to some touching moments.
4. Production and Cinematography: The animation and production are solid, with a pleasant, calm visual style that supports the anime's atmosphere well. The scenes are attractively designed, although the overall visuals aren't particularly striking or innovative. The quiet scenes are supported by a restrained musical score that enhances the romantic mood. I personally love the cherry blossom style, which is used repeatedly.
5. Social Critique: The series subtly criticizes societal expectations and traditions, especially regarding arranged marriages and ideas about love and relationships. She questions whether marriage must truly be based on love or whether it can also be based on practical and familial ties. She also examines the pressure that societal norms can exert on personal relationships.
